S.O.S. – With the push of a button, GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center provides your GPS coordinates and information to local response teams (for example contacting 9-1-1 responders in North America and 1-1-2 responders in Europe). The S.O.S. button is for emergencies only.
Tracking – Customised tracking features allow others to follow your journey. Motion-activated tracking can automatically send updates while you are moving.
Check-In – Send a pre-programmed text message or email with your GPS coordinates to up to 10 contacts. Your waypoint is stored in your SPOT account for future reference.
Custom Message – Send personalised messages to pre-determined contacts. This can be used as a secondary OK message or personal help alert.
Help / SOV – Alert personal contacts if you need help in non-life-threatening situations or use SPOT S.O.V. for professional vehicle recovery services (additional service required).

1. Do I need a service plan for this device?
Yes. This device requires an active service plan. Click here for service plan details.

2. Can I receive notifications or messages on my SPOT Gen4?
No. The SPOT Gen4 is a one-way satellite communication device. It sends Check-In, Help and SOS alerts to your chosen contacts and emergency responders.
Before using your SPOT device, message content is entered in your online SPOT account.
3. Can I use other batteries in an emergency?
SPOT recommends using Energizer™ Ultimate AAA Lithium or Energizer™ NiMH rechargeable batteries for optimal performance. Other AAA batteries may work but can reduce message transmission reliability.
4. Can the unit be connected to external power?
Yes. SPOT Gen4 can be powered via a 5v USB connection. However, rechargeable batteries inside the unit will not charge and the device is not waterproof while connected to USB power.

6. How many contacts can receive my messages?
You can store up to 10 contacts total, made up of email addresses and mobile numbers.
7. Do I need a computer to update my SPOT Gen4?
A computer is only required for firmware updates or tracking configuration changes via USB connection. Message and contact changes can be made online through your SPOT account.
8. What areas of the world are covered?
SPOT works across most of the globe including North America, Europe, Australia and many offshore regions.
9. What happens if I press the SOS button?
FocusPoint International monitors SOS alerts and coordinates emergency response. Your device will send GPS coordinates every 5 minutes until SOS is cancelled or power is lost.
10. Does SOS work on a suspended Flex plan?
No. The SOS feature only works while your SPOT service subscription is active.
