Suunto celebrates 90 years of adventure with a special Vertical 2 Titanium Limited Edition
In 2026, Suunto reaches a remarkable milestone. February marks 90 years since the founding of this iconic Finnish brand, a company that has helped shape how we navigate, explore and train outdoors. For anyone who has ever relied on a Suunto compass, dive computer or GPS watch, this anniversary feels well deserved.
To mark the occasion, Suunto is releasing a Suunto Vertical 2 Titanium Limited Edition, available from 10 March 2026. At GPS Training, we are pleased to say we have secured units on order ahead of the launch.
A brand built on precision and the outdoors
Suunto began in 1936 when Finnish inventor Tuomas Vohlonen set out to create a more reliable compass capable of handling the harsh Nordic environment. His liquid-filled design set a new standard for stability and accuracy, and it laid the foundation for a company defined by precision, durability and thoughtful engineering.

After Tuomas’s passing in 1939, his wife Elli guided the young company through its formative years, embedding values of quiet confidence, functional design and respect for the natural world. In our view, those principles are still clearly visible in Suunto products today.
Defining new eras in outdoor technology
Over nine decades, Suunto has consistently pushed things forward. Highlights include:
- 1965: The first dedicated Suunto dive compass after discovering their compasses worked flawlessly underwater.
- 1997: The Suunto Spyder, the world’s first watch-sized dive computer.
- 1998: The Suunto Vector, the original “ABC watch” combining altimeter, barometer and compass, which became legendary among mountaineers and hill walkers.
- Early 2000s: Pioneering GPS wearables such as the Suunto X9 and G9.
- 2004: The Suunto T6, bringing real-time HRV-based training insights to the wrist.
- 2024: The introduction of ZoneSense, a clever HRV-based intensity system that works without lab testing.
More recently, Suunto has led the way with free offline maps worldwide, heatmaps for route discovery, and sport-specific features such as automatic interval detection for swimming and ski-and-shoot tracking for biathlon. That blend of navigation, physiology and practical outdoor use is exactly why so many of our customers choose Suunto.
The Vertical 2 Titanium Limited Edition
The centrepiece of the anniversary celebrations is the Suunto Vertical 2 Titanium Limited Edition. Only 1,936 units will be made, a nod to Suunto’s founding year.
Visually, the watch pays tribute to the iconic Suunto Vector with a yellow-and-black design and a Vector-inspired watch face. Under the hood, it is still Suunto’s most advanced adventure watch to date, combining top-tier navigation, long battery life and robust build quality in a titanium case.

Suunto has also confirmed that the lifetime climate emissions of each watch will be calculated and offset through a verified mangrove restoration project in Southeast Africa, which aligns well with Suunto’s long-standing focus on sustainability.
We think this is a fitting celebration of Suunto’s heritage, blending nostalgia with modern capability rather than simply reissuing an old product.
What this means for GPS Training customers
From 10 March 2026, the Vertical 2 Titanium Limited Edition will be available from GPS Training, but there will be limited stock. We have secured stock in advance and will be offering it through GPS Training as soon as units arrive.
If you are already a Suunto user, this is a meaningful collector’s piece that still works brilliantly in the field. If you are new to Suunto, it is an excellent entry point into the brand’s ecosystem of maps, training tools and community features.
Looking ahead to the next 90 years
Suunto has confirmed it will celebrate throughout 2026 with pop-up exhibitions, panel discussions and community events around the world. More importantly, the company says it remains committed to better navigation, smarter physiological insights, tougher materials and more sustainable products.
In our opinion, that is exactly the direction outdoor technology should be heading.
