Review of the TwoNav Terra – Two years on

It’s been just under two years since I first picked up the TwoNav Terra, and it’s safe to say it’s become both our best-selling TwoNav GPS unit and my go-to for walks, recces, and even big endurance days out.

Back when I first tried the Terra, I walked with it for several months before deciding we should stock it. That early testing period convinced me it was something special – and customer feedback since then has confirmed it.

What’s new since we first stocked it?

- We now offer the TwoNav Terra 32GB version pre-loaded with Ordnance Survey 1:25k maps – no more faffing with downloads, just switch it on and go. More here

- The newer 64GB model has been a hit with users who want both 1:50k and 1:25k OS mapping installed at the same time, plus plenty of room for overseas maps. More here

First impressions

When you hold the Terra, it just feels right.

The screen size and body proportions work perfectly – no oversized casing with a tiny display. It’s robust, well-built, and sits comfortably in the hand. The high-resolution, backlit touchscreen is clear in all conditions, and it automatically adjusts brightness depending on your surroundings – just like a modern smartphone.

Navigation experience

The Terra offers silent map-based navigation – you simply watch your position move across the OS map. When you stray off course, it alerts you with a clear, loud beep (you can customise how far off route you need to be before it triggers).

This is where it shines:

- Complex terrain with no visible path? No problem. I’ve used it in trackless upland areas where navigation would otherwise be tricky, and the Terra’s clarity made route-finding straightforward.

- Multiple routes on one map page – brilliant for displaying pre-planned “escape routes” alongside your main walk, so you can divert quickly if conditions change.

- Fast map redraw – no lag when panning or zooming.

- Customisable display – change the pointer style, route colours, map orientation, and more to suit your preferences.

Connectivity & planning

The TwoNav Terra connects seamlessly to your phone, letting you wirelessly transfer GPX files via the TwoNav Link app – a feature usually found only on higher-priced GPS units.

Planning a route on our free online OS Planner and transferring it to the Terra takes minutes.

Battery life

The stated 15-hour battery life holds up in real-world use, even in winter conditions.

You can extend it further by locking the screen when not in use – the device continues recording with a small LED indicator. When in using it in this way we have increased the battery life to 18 hours.

Accessories

From bike mounts to backpack tethers, the Terra has a good range of accessories.

The carry case and lanyard options make it versatile for walking, cycling, or other outdoor activities.

Customer feedback highlights

We’ve had consistently positive reviews from Terra owners. Here are a few stand-out comments:

“The Terra has a nice screen for viewing the OS 1:25,000 map and sits nicely in the hand… easy to change settings for personal preferences.”

“With OS mapping already loaded by GPS Training, the unit was pretty much ready to go. The large screen means I can see it without my glasses!”

“Excellent for both hiking and road cycling. Best GPS I’ve owned – and GPS Training’s after-sales support is superb.”

“The training package is extremely comprehensive. I loaded a GPX file via the app, followed a new route with ease, and the compact size is perfect.”

TwoNav Terra vs the competition

I’ve described the Terra as “a Satmap on steroids” – combining the clarity and mapping style Satmap users loved, with modern features like phone connectivity and faster performance.

Compared to rivals, the Terra:

- Offers excellent mapping at a lower price

- Has better screen clarity

- Maintains fast performance even with detailed mapping

- Comes with a great real-world battery life

Verdict – Two years in

After two years, the TwoNav Terra has firmly earned its place as my default GPS unit.

It’s easy to use, offers outstanding mapping clarity, performs exactly as promised, and costs less than comparable high-end models from other brands. Whether you’re upgrading from an older device, replacing a Satmap, or buying your first GPS, the Terra is a fantastic choice.

If you’re buying from GPS Training, you’ll also get:

- 1 year’s free access to our online training resource

- Telephone & email support from our expert team

- The unit set up and ready to use with your chosen maps

I’ve been using the Two Nav Terra for about eighteen months and it is certainly a remarkable unit. It feela robust, has a good sized clear screen that works well whatever the light level. The operating system is very intuitive and I particularly like that you can disp;lay more than one route on the the same screen if needed. Also the battery life has never let me down and the mix of touch screen and physical buttons is ideal. On top of that the ‘Two Nav’ Land software is relatively easy to use and syncs well with the unit, and their instructional videos are a great addition to the excellent library on the GPS Training web site.

If TwoNav made device with a Montana-sized screen I would be on it like a shot.
