Overview

Two-day Garmin GPS Training course in the South Downs, our two-day GPS Training course in the South of England.

Our customers walk away after our two days of GPS Training with us knowing everything there is to know about both their handheld GPS unit and the route planning software.

If you are considering making your first GPS purchase or have bought one of the new generation Garmin handheld GPS Devices, with OS maps, and would like to find out how to get the best from your new device, maps, and free BaseCamp PC software then this course is for you.

The course is very practical and hands-on with either your own GPS or one of our loan units. On our course you will:

- Learn how to set up your Garmin GPS correctly 
- Find out what the various pages show
- Understand what the buttons & keys tell us
- Learn how to name, change location coordinates and enter waypoints
- Navigate Goto's 
- Learn how you can navigate to a selected point on the map page
- Understand in a classroom demo how to freely download Basecamp
- Find out how you can plan routes in BaseCamp on your PC
- Learn how you can manage GPX files and save on your PC
- See how you can send a route to your GPS
- Follow a route sent to your GPS from Basecamp
- See a tracklog on your GPS and navigate Backtrack

If you attend a course you also get free access to our online resource and you get email support for 1-year post-course (normally £80.00).

You do not own a GPS or have any experience of using one (in which case we will have a new generation Garmin GPS for you to use on the day). Have your own GPS but wish to learn how you can navigate more safely on the hills, send user data like routes to/from your device & PC use Waypoints and the trackback functions.

This course will cover the following newer generation Garmin devices: eTrex 22/32, Touch 25/35, Oregon 700, GPSMap 64, 65, 66, 67, 86 and Montana 610 / 700 ranges. We will provide a suitable setup sheet for each device for you to keep for future reference and use on the day and we will explain all jargon & technical features as we go along.

Itinerary - Day 1 & 2

DAY 1

Morning 9.30 am to 12.30 pm approx.

- How the GPS System works 
- How to set up your GPS unit
- How to use waypoints
- Understand and use Routes, Tracks and GoTos
- Pre and post-walk routine

Afternoon 1.00 pm to 4.30 pm approx.

- Overview and demonstration of Basecamp
- How to send a route to your GPS unit
- How to follow a route in your GPS unit
- How to use TracBack and Reverse Route
- How to create a Route in your GPS unit
- Questions

DAY 2

Morning 9.30am to 12.30pm approx.

- Revision of Day 1
- Housekeeping, Reset Trip & Current Track
- Introduction to Basecamp & exercises
- Create a route in Basecamp and navigate 

Afternoon 1pm to 4.30pm approx.

- Basecamp exercises
- Using your GPS abroad
- Download routes & tracks (GPX files) from the internet 
- Final questions & goodbyes

Tea & Coffee supplied morning & afternoon – Please bring your own lunch.

GPS Training - Booking Terms & Conditions: 

It is essential that you read, understand and accept the following terms and conditions prior to making a booking for one of our courses. 


1. BOOKINGS 

Once a booking has been made by internet, by telephone or by post and the course fees or deposit paid, the booking becomes firm. By making a firm booking, you are 

Entering into a contract. Your contract is with GPS Training, which is part of Shepherds Walks Ltd

Bookings are only accepted in Sterling. If you pay by credit card in another currency, you will be responsible for any currency conversion costs incurred. 

You will receive a written confirmation by email (if you gave us your email address) or by post (if you have no email address). Please bring this to the course as proof of booking. If you cancel your booking, you may be entitled to a refund as explained in section 2 and 3 below. 


2. PAYMENT OF BALANCE OF COURSE FEE 

All courses must be paid in full at the time of booking


3. CANCELLATION & AMENDMENT BY YOU 

Cancellation of UK-based GPS day courses only 

If you wish to cancel your course booking, you must notify us in writing (by post or email).

Refund policy, after customer cancellation

1. 56 days or more before course/walk/ event date - Full refund minus £10.00 admin charge or free transfer onto another course.

2. More than 28 days and less than 56 days a 50% refund or free transfer onto another course. If you transfer to another course this is not refundable and non-transferable.

3. Less than 28 days before the course date no refund will be given.

Amendment of all course

i) If you are unable to take up your course, you may arrange for someone else to attend/ go in your place provided that you notify us in writing (by post or email) at least 7 days before the course. A £10 administration charge (including VAT) will be charged to your credit card for this service.


4. MINIMUM NUMBERS 

We reserve the right to cancel a course if insufficient places have been sold to make it viable. If this happens we will endeavour to give you at least two weeks’ notice prior to the course date. If you would prefer to transfer your place to an alternative available course date we will do this for you, otherwise we will give you a full refund. 


5. INSURANCE 

We strongly advise you to arrange insurance to cover personal accident, cancellation of your holiday by yourselves or GPS Training, loss of personal effects and personal liability. GPS Training cannot accept responsibility for illness, injury or loss, other than that caused by our proven negligence. 


6. FORCE MAJEURE 

We will not be liable to pay any compensation if we are forced to cancel or change any aspect of the course due to circumstances beyond our control which we or our host location managers could not have reasonably foreseen or forestalled. Such circumstances include, but are not restricted to war or threat of war, terrorist activity, riots or civil strife, industrial disputes, natural or nuclear disasters, fire or bad weather. 


7. HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY 

GPS Training takes your health and safety very seriously. To ensure this, everything we do has your safety and wellbeing as an absolute priority. This is achieved through the implementation or our Health & Safety Policy. A copy of this is available at all course and holiday locations and is available on request from our office. 

It is your responsibility to inform the course leader and tutor of any medical condition that might affect your performance whilst walking in our company. 


8. INFORMATION 

Any statements, descriptions, illustrations, photographs, drawings or any other matters contained in our website, advertisements or other literature are made in good faith but are not guaranteed to be accurate and are intended merely to represent a general picture of our courses and shall not form any part of the contract between us. 

We reserve the right to improve our courses from time to time so that the descriptions as set out in our website, advertisements and other literature may not match identically with the actual course content and participant experience. 


9. COMPLAINTS 

We will try to resolve any problems as soon as you notify us of them. If you want to complain during the course, please inform your Course Leader. If the problem cannot be resolved to your satisfaction, please notify our head office in writing within 14 days of the completion of the course, setting out the full details of the complaint. We will reply to you within 14 days of the receipt of your letter. 


10. ONLINE RESOURCE 

Our Online courses are provided, maintained and controlled by GPS Training entirely at our discretion. The purchase of an online training course from GPS Training in no way guarantees any right of access to the online resource. By signing up for our online resource you agree to GPS Training using your email address to send you a copy of their monthly newsletter; you can unsubscribe at any time.
