SatMap users – should you change your GPS unit?

Every week we get calls from SatMap users asking the question, should they change their GPS unit. In this video we look at the subject.

With SatMap ceasing to trade last year and with SatMap users no longer getting support from the manufacturer it has pushed many SatMap users to address the question, do I change my GPS unit.

Listen to the GPS Training Podcast, where we broke the news about SatMap closing down - listen to it here (move the slider along to 25 min and 25 sec to hear the piece on SatMap).

In my experience Garmin’s OS maps are not in the same class visually as those on the SatMap. I’ll admit to using my SatMap as an electronic map. I often input a route, but the quality of the screen and map is such that I can easily see and follow alternatives as I walk, rather than having to blindly follow an arrow on the screen. Even when mine dies I’ll try to avoid returning to Garmin Montana units, with their poor quality OS mapping, glitchy touchscreens and confusing operating system.

I PURCHASED MY TWO SatMap UNITS FROM GPS TRAINING AND AM A SUBSCRIBER TO THE ONLINE RESOURCE. IF I WAS TO CHANGE TO GARMIN NEXT YEAR WHAT IRISH MAPS ARE AVAILABLE FOR USE IN THEIR UNITS AND WHAT MODEL WOULD YOU RECOMMEND. USE IN THE MOUNTAINS WOULD BE THE PRIORITY.
