Garmin has introduced a major update to selected inReach devices, allowing SOS functionality to remain active even when an inReach subscription is suspended. We explain what has changed, which devices are compatible, and what it means for UK outdoor users.

If you own a Garmin inReach device — or are thinking of getting one — there’s great news. As of 5th June 2025, Garmin has made some major updates to their inReach subscription plans, making them simpler, more flexible, and easier on your wallet when you’re not using your device.
