How accurate is a GPS unit and which is the most accurate GPS Unit?
In this series of videos we look at how accurate is a GPS unit and which is the most accurate GPS Unit?
Back in summer we took a number of GPS units and GPS watches out for a walk in the Lake District to see how each of them performed.
Then after posting the video above a number of your, rightly, questioned what we had not included the SatMap Active 20.
Therefore later in the year we had the ultimate shootout, we pitched the winner of the previous test, the Garmin GPSMAP 65s, against the SatMap Active 20.

Unfortunately, all the second video has shown is that each device has different default settings for tracklog file size.
There’s a video covering the GPSMap65 tracklog settings by Andy at GPS Training – you may have seen it :-) . If you require a point every second, change the settings to record at that rate.

Thanks for doing the test (you did say you were going to do it). I always though the SatMap would come out on top but I am biased! I guess on a long walk the number of track points recorded might become an issue with internal memory but I’ve never found it a problem. On the SatMap when reciving EGNOS the symbol on the top left turns blue I think so it lets you know when you are getting enhanced accuracy. My only gripe is that the battery charger cover flap tends to fall off a lot which is annoying. Great review none-the-less. Thanks
